Traditional Aboriginal Games

The Wanyara TAG program is based around traditional Aboriginal games and activities as recorded by the explorers, government officials, settlers, scientists and missionaries of early settlement. Many of these games and activities continue to be practiced by Aboriginal people today, but we have modified them for safety, ease of use and to cater for all ages and abilities. The games are used to tell the story of specific Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural practices and history. They provide participants with the opportunity to learn Aboriginal language as well as powerful life lessons that are as relevant now as they have been for the millennia that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have inhabited this land.

TAG programs are designed to be as flexible as possible and the games can be played either indoors or outdoors. All games use modern equipment which we provide and have been designed to cater for all ages and ability levels with the safety of paramount concern. Your TAG program can also include conversations with Aboriginal elders and role models to provide an even richer cultural experience.

Every Wanyara program is facilitated exclusively by trained and accredited instructors who are all of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent. This ensures that your Indigenous learning experience is as authentic as possible. In addition to the traditional Aboriginal games, your program can also include traditional art, dance, language, history, ceremonies, songs and stories to help you understand and embrace an Aboriginal perspective of our country.
